The Finnish History Days

The Finnish History Days are a national event, during which topical themes in Finnish history are lectured on and discussed during three days. The lecturers include prominent Finnish historians as well as young researchers of different departments of history. International experts have also been included annually in the programme of the event.

The three-day event starts with a Danielson-Kalmari seminar at Asikkala. The programme of the second and the third days include lecture series and panel discussions which can be followed at the Fellmanni Congress Center in Lahti.

Experts on each theme from the university world and from the top of society are invited as lecturers to the event. The standard programme includes a section reflecting the issues of economic life, as exemplified by the Company of the Year, held on Friday morning, an opening speech made by a distinguished person, as well as publishing the Historical Work of the Year.The programme of Saturday includes a parallel lecture series in Swedish, produced by Historiska föreningen I Finland (Finnish History Association).

All the events of the history days are open to the public and there is free admission to them. No pre-registration is required.

The 11th Finnish History Days will take place on 11.-13.2.2010. 
Lecture themes include i.e. The Balkans, Financial crises, Art and culture of 1920's and 1930's, Witchcraft and magic and Nationalism, identity and ethnicity in the world of sports.
