The Lahti Art Museum was established in 1950 and, since then, it has been situated at Vesijärvenkatu 11, in connection with the City Technical Office. In the exhibition department at street level there are constantly changing exhibitions showing old and modern art and graphic design both from Finland and from abroad. The is no permanent exhibition at all, but works from the museums's are being shown mainly at different theme exhibitions.

In connection with the Art Museum there is also the Poster Museum, established in 1975.

Since 1980 the Lahti Art Museum has been operating as a regional art museum of the Päijät-Häme district, which encompasses the city of Lahti and 12 surrounding municipalities. The task of a regional art museum is to give guidance and professional help to the local municipalities and communities in matters concerning pictorial art.

Art performance dealing with the Finnish civil war in 1918 aims to involve 22 000 participants

24th January, 2013 - The Finnish artist Kaisa Salmi will realize a large-scale participatory performance “Fellman Field - Living Monument of 22 000 People” in Lahti, Finland on Sunday the 28th of April 2013.

The International Lahti Poster Biennial Becomes a Triennial

2.5.2012 - The event will be renewed and a comprehensive selection of international poster art will be on view in Lahti next time in 2014. The exhibition will become a poster triennial, arranged every third year.
