The Orimattila Art Museum

The Orimattila Art Museum displays the Ilmari and Toini Wall-Hakala Art Foundation collection, the Pentti Papinaho collection and an exhibition presenting the life the brothers J.H., Eero and Rudolf Elias Erkko of Orimattila, who became leading cultural figures in Finland in the late 19th and early 20th century

Ilmari Wall-Hakala's (1904-1973) collection of 19th and 20th-century Finnish and foreign art is a representative and integrated series of works comprising 173 paintings and drawings, 41 works of sculpture and etching plates. This collection features names familiar from the history of Finnish art: Akseli Gallén-Kallela, Albert Edelfelt, Pekka Halonen, Eero Järnefelt, Helene Schjerfbeck, Maria Wiik, Ferdinand and Magnus von Wright.... Ilmari Wall-Hakala's father was originally from Orimattila, and his last wish was to be buried there. He bequeathed a foundation to make his art collection available for display in Orimattila.

The collection of the sculptor Pentti Papinaho (1926-1992) comprises portraits, abstract sculpture, reliefs, medals and photographs. Papinaho made numerous public works of art for different parts of Finland. The best-known of these are Hakkapeliittojen kotiinpaluu (The Return of the Finnish Cavalry of the Thirty Years' War, 1975) in Lahti and the Dragoons Statue (1982) in Lappeenranta.

The museum is also a venue for events for the public, such as concerts and lectures.
The museum is maintained by the city of Orimattila.
