The Sysmä Local Heritage Museum

On the north side of the Church of St. Olaf in Sysmä is a parish granary built of masonry in 1854-1855. According to local heritage, the granary was built on an outcrop of bedrock where offerings were made in prehistoric times. It has housed the Sysmä local heritage museum since 1962. Along with the granary there are two storehouses and a boat shed in the museum area on the hill.

The museum collections include artefacts dating back to prehistoric times. In addition to agricultural and domestic folk implements the museum displays material related to local schools and manors.

There are currently plans to build a reconstruction of a prehistoric house in connection with the local heritage museum.
The museum is maintained by the Sysmä local heritage association.
