Donate an object

The collections of the museum are being systematically expanded. Objects relating to life in Lahti are added to the cultural history collection, and art phenomena and works of art from the Päijät-Häme region are added to the art collection. Posters from Finland and abroad, objects pertaining to winter sports, radio and TV, and traditions in the whole of Finland are added to the special collections. The museum’s photo archives collect images related to the history, traditions and built environment of the city of Lahti and the province of Päijät-Häme, and the operating fields of the Lahti Museums.

Finnish museums have agreed amongst themselves which parts of the Finnish cultural heritage they will record in their collections. The Lahti Museums have agreed to focus on the following topics, in particular:

Skiing and related personalities, winter sports events and snow sports

Domestic appliance industry (UPO Oy)

Local furniture industry

Ready-to-wear industry in Finland and Lahti in particular

Radio and TV

Posters

Vyborg

Life of elderly people (nowadays)

The Lahti Museums accept donations that complement the existing collections. The materials to be donated can be old, but modern objects are also added to the collections. A museum object, work of art, archive material or image always reflects its time or the phenomenon it represents.

- Materials can only be donated by their owner or a party authorised by the owner.
- The suitability of each piece to be donated for the museum’s collections will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- The museum does not accept any materials that it already has in its collections or that should be donated to another museum instead.
- A document is always prepared to irrevocably assign the ownership of the donated materials to the museum free of charge.
- As museum professionals, we are aware of the historical background of art and objects, but we do not offer any price estimates.
For the museum materials to reflect the era or phenomenon also in the future, we must have sufficient background information about the donation.
- The museum is interested in who has produced the materials and when (manufacturer, photographer, artist, author, graphic designer, etc.).
- Who holds the copyright to the materials and are there any other restrictions on the materials?
- When and where have the materials been used?
- Users of the materials and any other information about them (memories, events, names of the people in the photos, etc.).
The Lahti Museums have specialised researchers who manage the different collections. You can turn to them in any questions regarding donations and other issues pertaining to the topic in question.
